First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act to be Re-introduced

OTTAWA, ONTARIO (January 22, 2004) - The federal government announced yesterday its intention to reintroduce the proposed First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act. The Bill was previously introduced on December 2, 2002. When the 2nd Session of the 37th Parliament prorogued November 12, 2003, the Bill was being debated in the House of Commons at Report Stage.

“On behalf of the many First Nation proponents of the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act, I am pleased that the federal government continues to support this First Nation-led legislation. I have been working with First Nation leaders on this initiative for the past 15 years. I congratulate these leaders for their vision. For those communities that choose to use them, the institutions will stimulate economic development, improve infrastructure and raise the quality of statistics and information.” said Manny Jules, spokesperson for the fiscal institutions initiative.
